Passage of time. Lesson plan

THE PASSAGE OF TIME

Description class:
Previous language through

Material: 4 digital cameras

12-13 students grouped in 3s

Working space: playground

1. Today we’re going to study the passage of time.

2. What does the passage of time mean?

What do you think the passage of time is?

What does the passage of time represent to you?

3. -The passage of time in art is represented by ordered images which describe the evolution of a fact in a given sequence of time.

-That’s to say, imagine that I’m here, and I want to get here.

I have to follow different steps to reach the final stage.

First, in the starting image I do one pace.

Then (next) in the second image I do this other thing. (I do another pace)

Finally after a series of images I reach the final position.

4. What form of art can you think of in which stories are explained sequentially?

(Comic strips, films)

Yes, that’s right, the comic strips explain a story through their frames.

5. In this exercise, like in the comic strips, we’re gonna study the passage of time by taking photographs of each moment, each step, within a given sequence.

That’s to say:

1. First choose two friends to work with.

Make groups of three.

(It will remain one person, so one group will have to be of 4)

2. Secondly you have to think of a simple situation.

3. Some ideas to work with would be:

Perform the movements yourself, in other words, you being the main characters.

Choose an object to be the main character: Playmobil toys, cars, and toys in general… inside of the wooden house you can find many toys.

You can also play with sand or draw in the sand. And take photographs of the sequence of the drawing.

Or any other sequential situation you can think of.

4. Then, you have to sketch its evolution (in time) similar to this one.

Only using 4 frames.

5. Once you have the sketch, choose one of you to be in charge of taking the photos with the digital camera.

The other two, will be in charge of animating the sequence.

6. IMPORTANT: Take photos of the steps following your sketches.

Do not take photos randomly (without thinking)

I remind you that you can’t take more than 4 photos!

If you take a wrong photograph, you can obviously

delete it, and take it again.

BUT, YOU CAN ONLY GIVE ME 4 PHOTOS PER GROUP

To be sure that you follow correctly the activity, you can check the steps here.

I’m going to record you. Remember that your voices will be also recorded. You know what I mean. If you say any swearing, or laugh at someone, or anyone behaves incorrectly, I will cut his/her image from the recording and take him/her out of the exercise.

You know that I’ll do it because I’ve already done it previously when you recorded last time.

Did you understand me? Do I have to repeat it? Can you explain what I’ve just said? Take care of the cameras, you break it, you pay it and you’ll get a punishment.
